Celebrating Women’s History Month!

In March, we commemorate and encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. The founding of AAAIM 16 years ago was based on the vision and leadership of trailblazers, Maeley Tom and Ginger Lew.

The woman I especially honor this month, perhaps like many of you, is my mother. My story mirrors that of many in the AAAIM family, intimately tied with immigration. My mother immigrated to Houston, Texas from Quezon City, Philippines in 1984. I celebrate her for taking a chance on a new life in the United States and leaving behind the safety of what she knew, so that I might have better access to opportunities and resources for a more self determined future…
