Position Summary

Karlin Asset Management Inc. (KAM) is a sophisticated private investment office based in West LA with exposure to public securities, private equity, hedge funds, direct investments, real estate, and traditional funds. Our internal strategies include direct investments in value equities and fixed income, timber, tactical hedges, private equity, distressed and value add real estate, oil and gas, and lending. As an Investment Analyst responsible for sourcing and evaluating a diverse range of investment opportunities, you have a proven passion for investing with deep interest in the financial markets. You enjoy and are adept at proactively building relationships with industry contacts to source new investment ideas. You are an enthusiastic jack of all trades, working closely with a small and dynamic investment team to execute on these opportunities and be involved with a variety of special projects related to our broader investment portfolio.


  • Source, analyze, and recommend investment opportunities across multiple asset classes
  • Perform research, financial modeling, and analysis on individual securities
  • Author research memos on investment opportunities, asset classes, macroeconomic research, portfolio assets, or other investment or organization-related topics
  • Assist internal portfolio managers in sourcing, due diligence, and monitoring public securities investments
  • Meet with external investment managers, conduct due diligence, and help monitor external fund managers (performance, manager letters, exposure reports, financials, 13F filings, webcasts, annual meetings, etc.)
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial markets
  • Complete special projects and perform other responsibilities as necessary


Qualifications and Skills
  • 2-5 years relevant experience at an investment bank, equity research desk, or similar
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top tier college or university in finance, economics, or business; CFA a plus
  • Strong financial modeling and due diligence skills
  • High level of passion and intellectual curiosity for investing and financial markets
  • Driven to find overlooked, often out-of-favor investments; contrarian by nature
  • Ability to incorporate rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses to a wide variety of business models
  • Strong work ethic and initiative; effective communicator (verbal and written)
  • The highest level of integrity, professionalism, honesty, and sense of fiduciary duty
  • Ability to multitask and work as a team player in multiple, dynamic roles
  • Existing ties to Los Angeles or willingness to relocate
