AAAIM Externship Program: Accelerate 2023
AAAIM launched an interactive, hybrid program for diverse college students interested in the field of investment management and financial services to develop skills needed to apply for internships and better prepare them for the workforce.
The AAAIM Externship program is an experiential learning opportunity that allows students to learn from young investment professionals, heads of Human Resources, industry veterans and professional coaches on what it takes to enter the investment and financial business. This program is open to all diverse candidates, with a special emphasis on supporting AAPI students coming from modest income families.
Program Overview
AAAIM Accelerate accepted 29 college students for a full week of programming geared towards building a career in the financial services and investment management field. Accepted students ranged from different universities and locations, such as New York City, Texas, Ohio, and California.
AAAIM Accelerate consisted of an intensive 5-day hybrid program in mid-summer that provided students career exposure in the industry, virtual training, and education. Throughout the program, externs met with over 15 professionals to get a deep dive on career paths, lessons learned, advice around networking, and finding a community. Externs also had the chance to meet with professionals in-person at investment and finance firms to get an up-close look at the business operations and day-to-day responsibilities. The externship also provided informal mentorship opportunities to the externs through existing individuals in the AAAIM Network, post-program.
