San Francisco — April 15, 2021— The Association of Asian American Investment Managers (AAAIM) is proud to announce our first ever Emerging Leaders Initiative (ELI) Cohort, launching in New York City this year, with cohorts in other markets to follow. Our research shows that too many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) plateau at mid-career level due to lack of institutional programs and limited access to career development opportunities because of the “model minority” myth. AAPIs are represented well in top educational institutions, and in junior ranks of many investment firms. However, there is a vast under-representation of AAPIs in senior roles relative to the size of the professional workforce within the financial and investment industry.
“WCAS is thrilled to support this initiative to help drive more diversity at the senior levels of our industry. We are pleased to partner with AAAIM to promote more AAPI representation in the next generation of investment leaders,” states Eric J. Lee, a senior WCAS General Partner, Head of Diversity & Inclusion and member of the firm’s Management Committee.
Suzanne Wong, Partner, Chief Financial Officer of Palladium Equity Partners and AAAIM Board Member also shares resounding enthusiasm as an advocate on behalf of Palladium Equity Partners, “As a minority owned firm, we are committed to future leaders and diversity in our industry. We are excited to support the ELI Cohort program, and to make an investment on behalf of these outstanding AAPI professionals. Diversity is a core value at Palladium where 73% of our employees are female or minority and 64% of our partners are female or diverse. In order for the industry to become more inclusive, these are the types of professional development programs we all need to support.” Our New York City Cohort will officially kick off in May in conjunction with the Asian Pacific American Heritage month. This program consists of a select group of mid-career, high potential leaders identified through an application and interview process for participation.
We are excited and proud to introduce to our network, the inaugural 2021 NYC AAAIM ELI Cohort:
- Angie Chaterjee, Executive Director of Institutional Solutions Sales, UBS
- Brian Park, Vice President, BofA Securities
- Chakradhar Singh, Executive Director of Institutional Sales and Equity Derivatives, CIBC Capital Markets
- Chloe Choi, Vice President of Private Funds Advisory, Moelis & Company
- Emily He, Investment Associate, Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
- Linda Luu, Vice President, Blackstone
- Tiffany Yuan, Senior Associate, Palladium Equity Partners
AAAIM’s Emerging Leaders Initiative (ELI) program was created to help Asian American and Pacific Islanders break the “Bamboo Ceiling” in the investment field. “We can no longer be silent about our needs for professional representation. AAPI performance in asset management from our research indicates that we are fully capable of leadership, yet the demographic statistics of senior roles show that we are vastly underrepresented,” states Gordon C.C. Liao, ELI Committee Founder and Chair, AAAIM Vice Chair, and founding Board Member. AAAIM ELI Cohort participants will receive professional development through workshops, one on one ‘match made’ mentorship, participate in a group initiative to contribute to the AAPI community, and will be recognized at our 2021 AAAIM conference in September at the Four Seasons hotel in San Francisco.
The Association of Asian American Investment Managers (AAAIM) is a national 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing diversity and inclusion in the investment management industry, serving as a powerful voice for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Our goal is to elevate underrepresented groups through education, networking, and empowerment.
